A woman station master in Mumbai is a rare sight.

"There are 997 station masters in Mumbai division, but only nine are women. Some joined only a few years ago," says Mamta Kulkarni, the pioneer in the field who joined the Mumbai division of the Indian Railways as the first assistant station master in 1992.

संजुक्ता की 2008 में पहली पोस्टिंग माकुम में असिस्टेंट कमांडेंट के तौर पर हुई थी, कुछ ही देर में उन्हें उदालगिरी में हुई बोडो और बांग्लादेशियों के बीच की जातीय हिंसा को काबू करने के लिए भेज दिया गया। अभी वह असम के जोरहाट जिले की एसपी हैं और लगातार असम के जंगलों में एके-47 थामे सीआरपीएफ के जवानों और कमांडों को लीड कर रही हैं।

S Gayathri is station master at Coimbatore North Station.

COIMBATORE: S Gayathri reports for her 10-hour long duty at Coimbatore North Station at 7.50pm sharp, 10 minutes before her shift begins. She briskly walks into the control room to take charge from her colleague, and starts reviewing the trains scheduled to pass through the station over the next three hours. Fifteen minutes later, she starts issuing orders for the green signal for an incoming train from Erode and asks her officials to check on a problem at an intersection almost 1 km away.

It took a lot of persuading before Raha Moharrak's Saudi family agreed to let her climb

A Saudi woman has made history by reaching the summit of the world's highest mountain.

Raha Moharrak, 25, not only became the first Saudi woman to attempt the climb but also the youngest Arab to make it to the top of Everest.

She is part of a four-person expedition that also includes the first Qatari man and the first Palestinian man attempting to reach the summit.
